How text butterflies are built
Apart from the 🦋 emoji, Unicode has no butterfly character, so text butterflies are assembled from letters. ʚїɞ is the classic: the wing letters ʚ and ɞ around the Cyrillic letter ї (the Ukrainian "yi"), whose two dots look like antennae.
ƸӜƷ uses the Latin letters reversed ezh Ƹ and ezh Ʒ as wings and the Cyrillic Ӝ (zhe with diaeresis) as the body. The fancier Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ adds combining strokes and hooks, which can drift out of place on some phones. εїз swaps in a Greek epsilon and a Cyrillic ze for smaller, rounder wings.
The butterfly emoji 🦋
🦋 BUTTERFLY was added in Unicode 9.0 in 2016 and is drawn blue on most platforms. It stands for transformation and growth (from caterpillar 🐛 to butterfly), beauty, freedom, nature and spring, and of course for having butterflies in your stomach.
Use 🦋 when you want color and ʚїɞ when you want the butterfly to match your text. They mix well: 🦋 at the start of a bio and ʚїɞ as a line divider. The emoji comes in one color only, so add a colored heart after it, like 🦋💜 or 🦋🩷, to change the mood.
Butterflies in bios and names
Butterflies fit soft, spring and fairy styles. Frame your name like ʚїɞ Name ʚїɞ, add flower symbols for a garden look, or use the wings alone (ʚ ɞ) around a heart. More wing pairs are on the wings symbols page, and more soft pieces on cute symbols.
If a butterfly looks broken on another phone, the simple ʚїɞ is the safest version: all three of its letters are in nearly every font.
