Types de symboles de flèche

Unicode compte plusieurs centaines de flèches, réparties sur une poignée de blocs. Les plus simples, que vous voyez le plus souvent (→ ← ↑ ↓ ↔︎), se trouvent dans le bloc Flèches, avec des flèches doubles comme ⇒, des flèches courbes comme ↩︎ et des flèches circulaires comme ↻. Les flèches épaisses et décoratives telles que ➜ ➤ ➳ viennent du bloc Dingbats, et des séries plus récentes (les blocs Flèches supplémentaires et Symboles et flèches divers) ajoutent des versions à pointe triangulaire, sans empattement et à pointe large comme ⭢ et 🡒.

Un moyen rapide de choisir : les flèches fines → ressemblent à du texte normal, les flèches doubles ⇒ se lisent comme « implique » ou « donne », les flèches épaisses ➜ ➤ se démarquent comme des puces et des pointeurs, et les flèches emoji comme ⬆︎ ou 🔙 s'affichent en couleur sur les téléphones. Les toutes nouvelles flèches des blocs supplémentaires peuvent apparaître comme des carrés vides sur les anciens appareils : les classiques → ← ↑ ↓ sont donc le choix le plus sûr quand tout le monde doit les voir.

Où l'on utilise les flèches

Dans le texte courant, les flèches donnent des directions et pointent des éléments : Paramètres → Confidentialité → Bloqués, « lien en bio ↓ » ou « swipe → ». En mathématiques, → signifie « est envoyé sur » ou « tend vers » (x → 0), ⇒ signifie « implique » et ⇔ signifie « si et seulement si ». En chimie, → sépare les réactifs des produits, ⇌ marque un équilibre, ↑ indique un dégagement gazeux et ↓ un précipité.

Les claviers utilisent aussi des flèches comme étiquettes : ⇧ est Majuscule, ⇪ est Verrouillage majuscules, ⇥ est Tab et ⌫ est la touche Supprimer du Mac.
