Which leaf to choose
๐ (leaf fluttering in wind) feels fresh, light and calm, perfect for spring or a breezy mood. ๐ (fallen leaf) and ๐ (maple leaf) mean autumn, and the maple leaf is also the symbol on the flag of Canada. ๐ฟ (herb) suits plants, natural products and cooking, and ๐ฑ (seedling) means growth and fresh starts. ๐พ (ear of rice) works for harvest and fall themes, and ๐ชด (potted plant) is the houseplant lover's emoji.
โ๏ธ (shamrock) has three leaves and is the symbol of Ireland and St. Patrick's Day. ๐ (four leaf clover) has four and means luck. More charms are on the good luck symbols page.
Text leaves that are not emoji
โฆ, โง and โ are hederas, ivy-leaf ornaments that printers have used for centuries to separate paragraphs and sections. They take your font color, so they look elegant in book quotes and bios. In Unicode, โง is the "rotated floral heart bullet".
โธ is officially the "palm branch", and ๐ is the Egyptian hieroglyph of a reed. โ๏ธ is one of the few leaves that can be either text or emoji, depending on the style you copy. For a windy effect, pair leaves with the swirl เผ from the wind symbol page.
How to type a leaf symbol
On iPhone and Android, search the emoji keyboard for "leaf". On Windows, press Windows + .; on a Mac, press Control + Command + Space. In Microsoft Word, type 2766 and press Alt + X for โฆ, or 2618 for โ๏ธ.
A leaf at each end of a line, like โฆโโโโฆ, makes a neat divider at the top of a post. For trees and forest borders to go with your leaves, see the tree symbol page.
