The mushroom emoji
๐ is officially named "mushroom" and has been an emoji since Unicode 6.0. Most platforms draw it as a red cap with white spots, like the fly agaric toadstool, which is also the look of the power-up mushroom in the Super Mario games.
๐โ๐ซ (brown mushroom) came with Emoji 15.1 in 2023 for the kind you actually cook. It is the ๐ emoji and a brown square ๐ซ joined by an invisible zero-width joiner, so older devices show ๐๐ซ instead of one brown mushroom. In nature posts, ๐ often goes with ๐ for autumn foraging walks.
โฐ: the text mushroom
The popular text mushroom โฐ is really a letter: Glagolitic capital slovo (U+2C14), which stands for an S sound. Glagolitic is the oldest known Slavic alphabet, created in the 9th century, and this letter's round cap on a stem happens to look like a mushroom. The lowercase โฑ works as a smaller one.
Because it is a letter, โฐ takes your text color and size and never turns into an emoji. Some older phones lack a Glagolitic font and show a box instead.
Mushrooms in cottagecore bios
Mushrooms are a favorite of the cottagecore and goblincore styles. Pair them with frogs, snails, moss and ferns: ๐๐ฟ๐ reads like a forest floor. Text flowers from the flower symbol page and leaves from the leaf symbol page fit well, as do bows like เญจเญง.
To type โฐ in Microsoft Word, enter 2C14 and press Alt + X. For ๐, search the emoji keyboard for "mushroom", or press Windows + . on a PC and Control + Command + Space on a Mac.
