Where the ୨୧ bow comes from
The bow ୨୧ is not a bow at all. It is two digits from the Odia script of the Indian state of Odisha: ୨ is the Odia number two and ୧ is the number one. Side by side, their curly shapes look like the two loops of a tied bow.
The other text bows are borrowed the same way. ୨ৎ pairs Odia two with the Bengali letter khanda ta ৎ. 𐙚 is a sign from Linear A, the undeciphered script of Minoan Crete. 𝜗ৎ starts with a math theta symbol, and ⑅ is the OCR BOW TIE from Unicode's optical character recognition block.
Bows and the coquette aesthetic
Bows are the signature of the coquette aesthetic, a soft, romantic style built around ribbons, lace, pink, pearls and ballet flats. In text, that look comes from bows ୨୧ 🎀, hearts ♡, lace lines ꒷꒦ and emoji like 🩰 🦢 🍒.
Use a bow as a frame (୨⎯ name ⎯୧), as a bullet at the start of each line of your bio, or as a divider between sections. For the emoji version and awareness ribbons, see the ribbon symbol page, and for more soft pieces, see cute symbols and aesthetic symbols.
Will the bow show up on every phone?
୨୧ and ୨ৎ come from widely used scripts and appear on nearly every modern phone and computer. 𐙚 and 𝜗ৎ need newer or more complete fonts, so some Android phones and older devices show an empty box. If your bow disappears, switch to ୨୧ or the 🎀 emoji.
To type 🎀, search "ribbon" in your emoji keyboard, press Win + . (period) on Windows, or press Control + Command + Space on a Mac. The text bows are easiest to copy from this page and save as a keyboard text replacement.
