Fish emoji and sea life
๐ is the plain fish, ๐ the colorful tropical fish of reefs and aquariums, and ๐ก the blowfish that puffs itself up. ๐ฆ shark adds a bit of danger, ๐ฃ means fishing, and ๐ฃ sushi is fish on a plate. Whales ๐ณ and dolphins ๐ฌ sit next to them on emoji keyboards, but they are mammals, not fish.

The ichthys ><> and other text fish
The simple text fish ><> is also the ichthys, an early Christian symbol. Ichthys is Greek for fish, and its letters ฮฮงฮฮฅฮฃ were read as the initials of "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior". You will see it typed both ways, swimming right or left.
Longer fish such as ><(((ยบ> and ><((((ยบ> are popular in captions and chats, and the Japanese-style fish ends in the character ๅฝก as a tail. They are plain text, so they fit in bios and comments where emoji look too loud. Add ocean wave symbols for a whole sea scene.
Egyptian fish hieroglyphs
Section K of Gardiner's list of Egyptian signs covers fish and parts of fish. ๐ is the tilapia (K1), ๐ the elephant-snout fish (K4) and ๐ is sign K5. If they show as boxes, your device is missing a hieroglyph font. More signs are on the Egyptian symbols page.
How to type a fish symbol
Fish emoji are in every phone emoji keyboard; search for "fish". On Windows press Win + ., on a Mac Control + Command + Space. The text fish ><> uses only keyboard keys. For the eye in ><(((ยบ>, use ยบ, which is Option + 0 on a Mac or Alt + 0186 on Windows.
