What the Gemini symbol ♊︎ shows
The Gemini glyph ♊︎ looks like the Roman numeral two: two upright strokes joined by a bar at the top and the bottom. The strokes are the twins, Castor and Pollux from Greek myth, and the bars hold them together. Gemini is simply Latin for "twins".
The two brightest stars of the Gemini constellation carry the same names, Castor and Pollux, and sit side by side like a pair of heads. Emoji such as 👯 and 👥 are popular stand-ins for the twins next to the sign.
Gemini dates, element and planet
Gemini covers about May 21 to June 20 in the tropical zodiac. Many calendars end it on June 21 instead, because the June solstice, which starts ♋︎ Cancer, falls on June 20 or 21 depending on the year.
Gemini is an air sign, along with ♎︎ Libra and ♒︎ Aquarius, and a mutable sign that closes spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Its ruler is Mercury ☿, the messenger planet that also rules ♍︎ Virgo. Read more on the Mercury symbol page.
♊︎ versus Ⅱ and other look-alikes
♊︎ is a different character from the Roman numeral Ⅱ, two capital letters I, or the double bar ‖. They can look nearly identical in some fonts, but apps and search engines treat them as different text. Use ♊︎ when you mean the zodiac sign and Roman numerals like Ⅱ when you are numbering things.
Like the other signs, ♊︎ has an emoji version that phones draw on a purple square. Keep Symbol style on Text to copy it with an invisible U+FE0E so it stays a plain glyph, or switch to Emoji for the colorful look.
Gemini bio ideas and typing
Gemini is a sign about pairs, so symmetrical combos fit well: 👯 ♊︎ 👯, ☆ ♊︎ ☆, or your name in cursive text followed by ♊︎. Add your birthday, like ♊︎ 06.12, for a simple profile line.
You can also type the sign: search "Gemini" in the emoji panel (Windows key + . on Windows, Control + Command + Space on a Mac), or type 264A in Word and press Alt + X.
