What the Aquarius symbol ♒︎ shows
The Aquarius glyph ♒︎ is two parallel wavy lines, one above the other. They stand for flowing water: Aquarius is Latin for "water bearer", and the constellation is drawn as a figure pouring water from a jar.
Despite all that water, Aquarius is an air sign, not a water sign. The water signs are ♋︎ Cancer, ♏︎ Scorpio and ♓︎ Pisces; Aquarius shares the air element with ♊︎ Gemini and ♎︎ Libra.
Aquarius dates and ruling planets
In the tropical zodiac, Aquarius covers about January 20 to February 18. The switch from ♑︎ Capricorn and on to ♓︎ Pisces can move by a day in some years. It is a fixed sign, in the middle of the Northern Hemisphere winter.
Traditional astrology gives Aquarius to Saturn ♄. Modern astrology adds Uranus, the planet William Herschel discovered in 1781. Astrologers usually write it ♅, an H-shaped glyph that honors Herschel, while astronomers used ⛢, a circle topped with an arrow.
♒︎ versus ≈ and other waves
The Aquarius sign looks a lot like ≈, the approximately equal sign, and like ≋ or 〰︎. Many fonts draw ♒︎ with sharp zigzags, while ≈ uses smooth curves, but the real difference is meaning: use ♒︎ for the star sign and ≈ for math.
Phones also turn ♒︎ into a purple emoji. With Symbol style set to Text, the site copies the sign with an invisible U+FE0E so it stays flat; choose Emoji if you prefer the purple square. For decorative water lines, see the ocean wave symbol page.
Aquarius bio ideas and typing
Wave combos look natural with the sign: 🌊 ♒︎ 🌊, ≋ ♒︎ ≋, ♒︎ ♅, or ♒︎ 02.02 with your birthday. 🏺 and 🫗 work as a nod to the water bearer's jar.
To type ♒︎, search "Aquarius" in the emoji panel (Windows key + . on Windows or Control + Command + Space on a Mac), or type 2652 in Word and press Alt + X. See all signs on the zodiac sign symbols page.
