The main internet symbols
๐ Globe with meridians is the go-to symbol for the web, websites and language settings; many sites put ๐ next to their language menu. ๐ Wireless is the Wi-Fi emoji, added in Unicode 15.0 in 2022, and ๐ถ antenna with bars stands for cell signal. Before ๐ existed, people used ๐ถ for Wi-Fi too, and you will still see it that way. ๐ means a link, and โ๏ธ stands for the cloud.
Two internet symbols are plain keyboard characters. The at sign @ has been part of email addresses since Ray Tomlinson picked it for the first networked email in 1971, and the # became the hashtag after Chris Messina suggested it on Twitter in 2007. See the at symbol and hashtag symbol pages for fancy versions.
Online status and tech symbols
Colored circles make quick status labels: ๐ข online, ๐ก away or idle, ๐ด busy or live, and โซ๏ธ offline. They are popular in Discord nicknames, stream titles and team chats.
The standard power button symbols are real Unicode characters too: โป power, โผ power on-off, โฝ power on and โพ sleep. Mac users will also recognize โ (Command) and โฅ (Option) from keyboard shortcuts.
How to type internet symbols
On phones, search the emoji keyboard for "globe", "wireless", "link" or "signal". On Windows, press Windows + ., and on a Mac press Control + Command + Space. Flat symbols such as ๐ง (three networked computers) and โป are not on emoji keyboards, so copy them from this page.
Building a bio or a link page? Combine ๐ with an arrow from arrow symbols, like โ link below โ, or add a ๐ from location symbols.
