Which phone symbol to use
โ๏ธ is the black telephone, a classic desk phone drawn solid, and โ is the white telephone, the same phone in outline. โ is the telephone location sign, โก squeezes the letters TEL into one character, ๐ is the emoji handset, and ๐ฑ is a mobile phone.
โ๏ธ โ โ โก have been in Unicode since version 1.1 and are text symbols, so they print in the same color as your words. Some phones and apps swap โ๏ธ for a red emoji. To keep it flat, set Symbol style to Text before you copy, or use โ or โ, which have no emoji version.
Phone symbols on business cards and signatures
Put the symbol right before the number, with a space: "โ๏ธ +1 555 0100". Text symbols like โ๏ธ and โ look tidy in Word, Google Docs and design tools, and they print cleanly in black. Emoji can print in color or show as a box in some PDF fonts.
Pair the phone with โ๏ธ for your email (see the mail symbol page) and ๐ for your address (see location symbols), and keep the same style for all three so the contact block looks consistent.
Phone symbols in HTML and tel: links
In HTML, write โ๏ธ as ☎ or ☎. To make a number tappable on phones, link it with href="tel:+15550100": use the full international number with a plus sign and no spaces. The visible text can still show the symbol and a nicely spaced number.
Screen readers may announce the symbol by name, such as "black telephone". If the symbol is only decoration, wrap it in a span with aria-hidden="true" so the link text stays clean.
How to type a telephone symbol
In Word, type 260E and press Alt + X. On Windows, Win + . opens the emoji and symbol panel; on a Mac, Control + Command + Space opens the Character Viewer, where you can search for "telephone". On phones, the emoji keyboard has ๐ and ๐ฑ; copy โ๏ธ from this page for the text version.
