๐ Round pushpin is the standard location pin. It looks like a red map marker, so it's the one people put in bios ("๐ Chicago") and next to addresses. ๐ Pushpin is a tilted thumbtack: it usually means "pinned", like a saved note or a pinned post, rather than a place.
Unicode has no exact copy of the teardrop marker used in map apps, so ๐ is the usual stand-in. For a flat, text-style option, use ๐ (black pushpin) or โ, the position indicator, a crosshair that reads as "you are here". โฏ is a square version of it.
Location symbols for bios and travel posts
The classic bio format is pin, city and region: ๐ Austin, TX or ๐ Lisbon, Portugal. Add a country flag emoji if you like, but note that Windows shows flag emoji as two letters instead of a flag. On a contact card or flyer, ๐ can mark a home address, ๐ข an office and โ๏ธ the mailing address.
Travelers mix โ๏ธ ๐งญ ๐บ๏ธ with the three globes: ๐ shows Europe and Africa, ๐ the Americas, and ๐ Asia and Australia. For exact spots, write coordinates with the degree symbol: 40.7128ยฐ N, 74.0060ยฐ W is New York City.
How to type location symbols
On iPhone and Android, search "pin" or "location" in the emoji keyboard. On Windows, press Windows + . and type pin; on a Mac, press Control + Command + Space. The flat symbols โ and ๐ are not on emoji keyboards, so copy them from this page. If ๐ looks a bit different on a friend's phone, that is normal: every platform draws its own version.
