Speaker symbols and volume levels
๐ is a speaker with no waves (quiet), ๐ has one sound wave (medium) and ๐ has three (loud). ๐ is the speaker with a cancellation stroke, the universal mute icon. On videos and reels, "๐ sound on" tells viewers to unmute, and ๐ warns that a clip is silent.
๐จ ๐ฉ ๐ช are the same speakers facing right. They were added in Unicode 7.0 with no emoji version, so they stay in your text color, which suits app mockups and plain-text interfaces. Fewer fonts include them, so check them where you paste.
Bells, megaphones and microphones
๐ means notifications on and ๐ notifications off, as in "turn on the ๐". ๐ข the loudspeaker is for announcements, ๐ฃ the cheering megaphone for hype and cheers, and ๐ฌ is a text-style bullhorn with sound waves.
๐ค is a karaoke or stage microphone, ๐๏ธ a studio microphone for podcasts and voice-overs, and ๐ง is for listening. For notes, clefs and instruments, see the music symbols page.
Text sound waves and volume bars
You can draw sound with plain characters. ฤฑlฤฑฤฑlฤฑ alternates the dotless ฤฑ and the letter l to look like an audio waveform, โโโโโ โโ block elements make a volume or equalizer bar, and โฟ (SINE WAVE) draws a smooth tone. They are popular in music bios, podcast captions and Discord voice channel names.
Combine them with โช from the music note symbol page, or find more bar styles on the loading bar symbols page.
How to type sound symbols
Search for "speaker", "volume" or "mute" in your phone's emoji keyboard. On Windows, press Win + .; on a Mac, press Control + Command + Space. In HTML, ๐ is 🔊 and ๐ is 🔇.
