๐ธ vs ๐ท
๐ท CAMERA is the plain camera emoji from Unicode 6.0. ๐ธ CAMERA WITH FLASH, added in Unicode 7.0, shows the flash going off, so it feels more like a moment being captured: candid shots, "caught on camera", selfies and photo dumps.
For video, ๐น is a handheld video camera, ๐ฅ a movie camera for films and vlogs, ๐ฌ the clapper board for "action" or a new project, ๐ฝ๏ธ a film projector and ๐๏ธ a strip of film frames, which film photographers use for analog shots. ๐ผ๏ธ is a framed picture, handy for art and gallery posts.
Camera symbols for photographers and creators
Photographers put a camera in their bio to say what they do: "๐ธ Portrait & wedding photographer ยท NYC". To credit someone, end the caption with "๐ธ: @name" or "๐ท by @name"; it is short and widely understood. YouTubers and streamers use ๐ฅ for new videos and ๐ด for going live.
For travel posts, pair the camera with a pin from the location symbols page and a plane from the airplane symbol page. Add a little sparkle from aesthetic symbols for a softer caption.
Is there a text camera symbol?
The camera characters are emoji, so most devices show them in color, and the classic Dingbats have no black-and-white camera. For a monochrome look, people use text art like [โยฏ], where โ is the lens, or the record dot โบ๏ธ for video.
To type the emoji, search for "camera" in your phone's emoji keyboard, press Win + . on Windows or Control + Command + Space on a Mac. In HTML, ๐ธ is 📸 and ๐ท is 📷.
