Symbols borrowed from manga
Manga and anime have their own visual shorthand, and emoji borrowed much of it, because emoji started on Japanese mobile phones in the late 1990s. 💢 ANGER SYMBOL is the cross-shaped popping vein drawn on an angry character's forehead. 💦 and 💧 are the big sweat drops that show embarrassment or nervousness, 💤 means sleeping, and 💨 is the puff of dust as someone dashes off.
Sparkles ✨︎ ✧ around a face mean excitement or beauty, and 💫 means dizzy. In text faces, a semicolon plays the sweat drop, as in (^_^;).
Anime faces and Japanese punctuation
◠‿◠ uses two upper half circles ◠ as closed, smiling eyes over an undertie ‿ mouth: the classic anime "eye smile". ◕‿◕ gives big, shiny eyes, and ★彡 is a shooting star made from a star and the Chinese character 彡, whose three strokes look like a trail.
Japanese uses corner brackets 「 」 as quotation marks and 『 』 for quotes inside quotes and for titles, which is why fans use them to frame names and lines, like 「 Name 」. 【 】 are black lenticular brackets often seen in headings and tags. The wave dash 〜 at the end of a word, as in おはよう〜, stretches the sound playfully, much like a tilde in English chat.
Using anime symbols in bios
Fan bios often mix a Japanese word, a kaomoji and a few symbols, for example 「 ganbatte 」 ✧ or ◠‿◠ 大好き. The word list above includes the meaning of each one, so you know exactly what you are posting.
